Harte is a graduate student at Cal State East Bay studying cell and molecular biology, with a focus on fungal ecology and genomics. His MSc research examines fungal communities associated with serpentine and non-serpentine populations of the native California plant Collinsia sparsiflora using next- and third-generation sequencing.

Harte also serves on the board of Bay Area Applied Mycology and has taught mycology workshops at Counter Culture Labs in Oakland. His work includes fungal remediation projects and whole-genome sequencing of Omphalotus olivascens. A former chef, Harte’s interest in mycology began through mushroom foraging and grew into a passion for fungal research, community science, and teaching others.
