Protecting Fungi
Fungal conservation starts with knowing what’s there.
Fungi are essential to healthy, resilient ecosystems, yet they remain under-documented and underrepresented in conservation. FUNDIS is working to change that.
Through community science, field documentation, DNA sequencing, biodiversity data, and partnerships with researchers and land managers, we build the knowledge needed to understand where fungi occur, identify species of conservation concern, and protect the habitats they depend on.

Rare Fungi Challenge
The FUNDIS Rare Fungi Challenges seek to enhance our understanding of these rarely seen fungi. The Challenges are structured to uncover critical information, such as the distribution of target and other fungal species across different regions, their fruiting periods, and their habitats.
Sequence Validation Corps
Much like fungal detectives, Validators help determine new fungal species through DNA barcodes. This collaborative, online group aims to create a productive training environment for anyone to learn the sequence validation skills.
FUNDIS Local Projects
A network of fungal fieldwork across North America, led by community scientists, academics, and conservationists. Anyone can join or start a project.
